1. History
Ironbark Citrus is Australia’s premier boutique mandarin grower, specialising in supplying premium mandarins to the world.
Ironbark Citrus was established by the current owners, A.W. & S.R. Jenkin, at Mundubbera in Queensland, Australia in 1990. A 112 hectare citrus orchard and 12 hectare table grape vineyard has so far been established with progressive plantings on two properties; ‘Roselea’ and ‘Rosewood’.
The business currently grows, packs, markets and exports citrus and table grapes. The business is entering a phase of high growth, as new orchard blocks mature and enter into full production.
We are actively seeking market niches for all citrus and table grape varieties; to establish networks as a preferred supplier, and to establish a firm business base of repeat sales.
The business is committed to the highest levels of food safety and quality, and has an accredited HAACP-based quality assurance system (Freshcare), in place. The business is committed to ecologically sustainable agriculture, and has an Integrated Pest Management programme in place. We take pride in producing a “clean and green” product.
2. Ownership
Ironbark Citrus Pty Ltd is a family business, owned by Allen and Susan Jenkin and their family.
3. Management
Allen Jenkin, BSc, B. Ag, is the General Manager. He has managed the business since its establishment. Previously he managed various horticultural projects in Australia. He has Bachelor of Science (Forestry) and Bachelor of Agriculture degrees. His main focus is as manager of the production, harvest, packing and marketing of the business’s citrus and table grapes.
Susan Jenkin, B.A., B. Soc. Admin., is the Chief Executive Officer. She has also managed the business since its establishment. Previously she was involved in human resources, and has Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Administration degrees. She is primarily responsible for strategic direction, sales, logistics and shipping, quality control and administration.
4. Vision
The vision for the business is:
“To grow and package consistent, high quality citrus and table grapes, and to become the preferred supplier of citrus and table grapes to wholesale merchants, exporters, importers and food outlets, both in Australia and internationally.”
5. Goals
The current goals of the business are:
- To identify preferred market niches for all citrus and table grape varieties produced,
- To establish networks as a preferred supplier in each market, and
- To establish a network of repeat sales in all markets.
6. Products
The business specialises in the growing, packing, and marketing of citrus and table grapes.
We grow and pack a wide range of products under our Ironbark and Bluegum labels.
7. Competitive Advantage
Ironbark Citrus is a family run business. The management has personal control over all aspects of the production process. The business is a proven supplier of premium quality Australian Mandarins and Table Grapes in both Australian and International markets. It is small enough to be adaptable, allowing it to produce product to individual customer specifications. It has a history of innovation, and is constantly seeking to improve the product it supplies. It is a growing business that is keen to expand, and has the supply capacity to do so.
8. Pricing
Pricing varies between the varieties of fruit produced, the size of the fruit, and the class of the fruit. Indicative pricing is available on request.
